Star City, CA - Star City Slayer, watch out! Star City's original hero appears to have miraculously returned from the dead!
While not yet confirmed, it seems that the original Green Arrow, believed dead for more than a year, is in fact alive and has returned to activity. Already fallen under his bow are a corrupt City Councilman and Aquaman's long-time nemesis, Black Manta. He is reportedly trying to hunt down the Star City Slayer, the mysterious serial killer believed responsible for the disappearances of numerous children over the past few months.
The earliest confirmed sighting of the returned Green Arrow was by Councilman Freddie Dreyfus. The Councilman had apparently led a double life, preaching morality by day while holding wild parties, using drugs and consorting with prostitutes, including some who were minors, at night. The Councilman was found pinned with green arrows to the wall of his bedroom, together with evidence of his alleged crimes. Dreyfus has explicitly stated that it is Star City's old Green Arrow who did this to him and not the new, young one who has operated in recent years.
The Councilman stated that Green Arrow had broken into his house accusing him of being the Star City Slayer, but soon backed away from that position. Councilman Dreyfus, on his attorney's advice, refused to comment on the crimes that Green Arrow did accuse him of, except to say that he has never betrayed his constituents' trust.

Adding to the mystery, Star City Comptroller Harold Leeds has also reported receiving a visit from the revived emerald archer. "He seemed concerned about funding for a children's center," said Leeds, "but his information was ridiculously out of date. I'm pretty sure that he's the same guy he was years ago, but he seems to have no sense of time."
This conforms to the agenda of Green Arrow as of several years prior to his (apparent) death, when he stared spending a lot of time together with the Green Lantern of Coast City (now deceased) and espousing liberal social policies. In later years, he became a much more violent vigilante and seemed less interested in social issues than in criminal punishment.
He seemed to have met his demise during a battle against a group of radical eco-terrorists called the Eden Corps. He managed to infiltrate the group, but after being exposed, he was placed by the group's leader into a device that would explode if he moved his arm. This device was aboard an airplane that was carrying a bomb to drop on Metropolis. According to Superman, Green Arrow moved his arm, sacrificing himself in order to blow up the plane and prevent the bomb from hitting Metropolis. No identifiable remains were ever found, and the name Green Arrow was taken up by a younger man who has identified himself as the original's son.
Thus far, there have been no public comments on the issue from other heroes who had been associated with him, such as Black Canary or Arsenal, formerly known as Speedy.

Hawkman Back from Dead?
New York, NY - The Justice Society of America has announced the return to active service by Hawkman, a member of the original team from the 1940's.
Justice Society chairman Sand has confirmed that the Hawkman in question is a restored Carter Hall. Asked to explain the fact that the current Hawkman has black hair, like the most recent prior Hawkman, alien policeman Katar Hol, and Hall used to be blond, Sand responded that while Hol is somehow linked to Hall, the soul in the body clearly has access to knowledge that could only have come from Carter Hall himself.
Hall apparently returned to life on Thanagar, the planet on which the unique metal in his wings originates. He had been summoned back to life by Thanagarian mystics in order to redeem the planet from a demon.
Still uncertain is the relationship between Hall and the current Hawkgirl, who was a founding member of the new Justice Society. While she makes no claim to being another incarnation of the original Hawkgirl, Shiera Sanders Hall, Hawkman's body language at the press conference clearly indicated an interest in her. Unlike most of the other Justice Society members, she has chosen to keep her identity secret from the world. (Of course, in the case of the original JSA members, including Hawkman, their identities were revealed when they were presumed dead several years ago.)
Hall and his wife were not seen since the time-crisis known as Zero Hour, when they were somehow merged with Katar Hol into a single being, who retained Hol's identity. Hol himself disappeared not long after that.
Although he held the gavel as chairman of the Justice Society for decades prior to his recent death, he has quashed any spaculation that he intends to take the post out of the hands of Sand, who is responsible for the group's re-formation. "I think Sand has done a fantastic job, taking over my place in the running of the Society, and I see no reason to make him stop doing so," Hall said.

Generalissimo Fancisco Franco Still Dead
Madrid, Spain - Spanish diplomats have repeated their denial that the fascist former leader of their country is alive somewhere. "Despite the rash of resurrections amongst the super-heroic community, we cannot confirm any sightings of Franco as genuine." A recent reported sighting of the dead general in Gotham City turned out to be the serial killer Cornelius Stirk.
