Superman Remedial Reading

It's been a loooong time, but I'm back. And for my first return reviews, I thought I'd take a quick look at a few recent Superman related specials.

Superman & Batman: World's Dumbest

This was one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. Set in current continuity, it begins with Mxyzptlk's Bizarro hearing the latest news about Lex Luthor being elected President of the United States. He decides that LexCorp Tower needs an appropriate makeover, so he paints it white. Of course, Bat-Mite gets jealous over the fact that his favorite rodent-themed hero doesn't have an imperfect duplicate "helping" him. So Batzarro is born!

Evan Dorkin really knocked himself out this time with a sequel to last years "World's Funnest." One great scene is of Batzarro running around Gotham trying to be noticed and telling everyone his secret identity. And when he lets the "funny clown man" out of Arkham since he looks so nice and happy, ohhh boy!

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Return to Smallville Part 2

Next up is the second installment of the current arc in the Superman titles. After discovering that Smallville was not what he thought it was, Superman decides to visit the town again. He finds that not only were the Kents farmers, but they owned a general store in town! Pa Kent has just begun an experimental method of planting corn, but the Council of Farmers does not approve and decides to use the Combine Solution! Will Superman and the Kents be plowed under? Be sure to read the next installment of Return to Smallville!

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Superman Vs. Wolverine

This is the long-awaited meeting of Superman and Marvel Comics' Wolverine! After being mysteriously transported to Metropolis in the DC Universe, Wolverine, using his vast intellect, assumes that Superman is responsible. Superman, not recognizing this strange, angry man, decides that he must be an escapee of an experimental genetics program at Cadmus. Of course, the fists start flying, or should I say claws?

As some of you may know, there was news that at first this was planned to be a two-page special. But with much hard work they managed to expand it to a 4 Page Giant! The highlight of this issue would have to be Wolvie on his knees writhing in pain. I can hardly wait for the sequel!

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars!

Be sure to come back next month when I review Last Dog of Krypton and Lex Luthor Secret Files #2: Impeachment.
