Dealin' With Dooley

Fanzing's Simon Brown was fortunate to get a short interview with Green Lantern editor Kevin Dooley.
Simon Brown: In James Owsley's ACW run, the character Priest was
trying to teach Hal to tap into the GL power directly, without using the
ring. Is the way Parallax uses his power a deliberate extension of this?
Kevin Dooley: NO
While we're on the subject, are there any plans to bring back Malvolio?
Kyle reminds me a lot of Gerry Conway's Firestorm. Now that Ron Raymond has a Firestorm identity again is there any chance we'll see Ron writing him, either in GL or a new Firestorm series?
NO PLANS FOR A FIRESTORM SERIES AT THIS TIME.
Donna disappeared fairly quickly from the pages of GL, and while Ron has done a good job of rationalising it (especially in the GL/GA/Flash crossover), the whole affair seemed a bit rushed.
Was this because of a sudden demand from the Wonder Woman office, or was this pacing planned?
RATHER NOT GET INTO OFFICE POLITICS, BUT THE WW OFFICE DID HAVE PLANS FOR DONNA WHICH WE COOPERATED WITH SINCE SHE WAS THEIR CHARACTER. AND NEVER DID THEY SAY SHE COULDN'T EVER COME BACK.
Once Donna is given her new 'super hero identity', will she be available to return to GL?
WE HOPE SO.
After all, Kyle spent a fair amount of time with the Titans without being compromised in his own title.
Darryl seems to be off on another breather. Will he be back again soon, or will we be getting a new penciler?
DARRYL IS DOING 98-100 (A DOUBLE-SIZED!) THEN RETURNS WITH #107!
Terry Austin is a fairly prestigious inker to have on board. He was used to launch Superman and Justice League in '87, but couldn't commit to either, so how did you manage to get him as a permanent for this title?
- RON KNOWS HIM (PLAYS VOLLEYBALL WITH HIM),
- HE WANTED TO WORK ON GL.
Given Green Lantern is one of DC's best sellers, how did it miss out on the change to Miraweb a few years back?
WANTED TO KEEP THE PRICE DOWN.
The recent GL/GA/Flash team up was great fun, and I'm looking forward to the next crossover, but do you have plans for any other guests? How about a JLA story that can start in JLA, continue in each satellite title, and finish in JLA?
THAT'S THE PLAN FOR THE ANNUALS THIS YEAR.
OK, so while we're talking about Annuals, what's up for this year's Annual? Can you name the writer and artists for us?
THERE ARE 3 GL ANNUALS THIS YEAR: THE JLA CROSSOVER WITH RON MARZ AND BRYAN HITCH, THE GL 3-D SPECIAL WITH RON MARZ AND GEORGES JEANTY, AND THE 80-PAGE SPECIAL WITH LOTSA PEOPLE INCLUDING RON MARZ, JAMES ROBINSON, TY TEMPLETON, BEN RAAB AND MORE.
And although it's not a "real' Annual, there's one more, the unreleased 1963 annual. Was the printing of the 1963 GL Annual your idea?
NOT MY IDEA. :(
Can we expect any more reprints like this (aside from the Archive editions)?
NO OTHER PLANS BUT I HOPE SO.
Can you tell us anything about the upcoming Green Lantern hardcover? Is all of the art computer generated?
IT'S CALLED GREEN LANTERN: FEAR ITSELF AND IT'S PAINTED ON THE COMPUTER. BRAD PARKER, WHO DID PART OF THE SECOND MARVELS DOWNTOWN, VIDEOTAPES PEOPLE IN COSTUME, TRAPS THE IMAGE AND PAINTS THE PANELS. THE STORY ENCOMPASSES ALAN SCOTT, HAL JORDAN AND KYLE RAYNER--ALL FIGHTING THE SAME MENACE WHICH MAKES THEM FACE THEIR DEEPEST FEARS, AND BECOMES HARDER TO DEFEAT EACH TIME.
If the bi-weekly sales of Green Lantern from 100-106 are strong, can we expect a second GL title to regularly make GL bi-weekly? If so, would this be an in-continuity title featuring Kyle, or maybe a 'Legends
' style book featuring Hal, Alan, John, Guy and the GLC?
DOUBTFUL, MY GRAY HAIR COULDN'T TAKE IT.
Jay Garrick plays an important part in the life of The Flash, but Alan Scott seems to be less important to Kyle. Now, after the current GL-Sentinel mini-series, is this likely to change?
NOT ANY MORE THAN HE ALREADY IS, BUT THEY WILL BE CLOSER.
I've heard that an upcoming story arc in Legends Of The DC Universe will
be by the legendary O'Neil/Adams team. Did you have a hand in this?
Any chance of them doing something in the current Green Lantern series?
IT'S NOT NEAL ADAMS. IT'S DENNY O'NEIL, GREG LAND AND DICK GIORDANO DOING A 3-PARTER OF HAL & OLLIE'S FIRST SOLO ADVENTURE TOGETHER.
Emerald Twighlight has been out of print for quite a while now. With the current interest in Green Lantern is there a chance of a reprint? How about Emerald Dawn 1 & 2?
NO PLANS THAT I KNOW OF, BUT THE GL ARCHIVES WILL BE BACK IN PRINT.
Many years ago I picked up a copy of an obscure DC title called 'Wanted'. In it was reprinted a Green Lantern story from the Golden age. If memory serves, the story was quite short, and could fit nicely at the end of each regular issue in a manner similar to the backup stories in Fourth World. Would you consider doing something like this, to see how it goes?
NO. TOO MANY 22 PAGE STORIES TO TELL.
Finally, with #100 coming out, and #101-106 wrapping up that storyline, can you tell us what's in store for the year following the return to monthly status? Guest characters, guest creators, and special events?
ANYTHING WOULD GIVE AWAY TOO MUCH TOO EARLY.
