WHERE ARE THEY, WHEN YOU REALLY NEED THEM?
By Ron Troupe
Gotham City -You see them almost everyday. Next time you are outside, just look up in the sky and you will probably see someone flying overhead. They are commonly referred to as meta-humans, some come from our planet, others are the survivors of lost worlds. But the name which most people call them is "Super-Heroes!"

The name itself, implies how important they are to us. Imagine trying to live up to the name of SUPER HERO. Imagine the pressure people like Superman, and Wonder Woman feel everyday of their lives. There's is sometimes a thankless job, constantly saving people from death and destruction. But what do they do when they might find themselves in a situation, where they are powerless. No matter they do, in their mind it isn't good enough, or they are just powerless to stop the evils going on around them.

Recently, 3 giant beings, known as the "Millennium Guard" appeared on Earth, and several of the cities were destroyed before Earth's heroes were finally able to save the day. Most of the world's attention has been focused on that horrible situation, but what about the people of Gotham City? How many of the world's population even knows what is going on in Gotham right now, and over the last week?

One week ago, an earthquake registering 7.6 on the Richter Scale leveled much of Gotham City, and the surrounding area. The question I submit to you the reader, what are heroes like Superman to do? They are powerless against it, and Gotham's self appointed guardian is the mysterious figure known only as the Batman. Surely he didn't have the power to stop an Earthquake.

Many of our heroes have helped with the relief efforts, and the rebuilding of Gotham City has already begun. But it bothers this reporter to hear some of the people affected by the earthquake to ask the question, "Why did this happen, and why didn't you stop it?"

What are our heroes to say? To many people, super-heroes can do anything, after all they have saved our world time and time again. So why should an earthquake be any different?

Many people don't realizethat many of heroes are like us in many ways. Sure they might have superstrength, the ability to fly, etc… they still have feelings and emotions just like anyone else. No matter how hard they try, no matter how fast they fly, they can't be everywhere at once, they can't save everyone that needs saving, and they can't do everything that they would like to do.

The Earthquake that rocked Gotham City, has left over 10,000 dead, and is a terrible tragedy, but PLEASE remember, it's no one's fault. Our heroes couldn't have done anything to prevent it. They are still my heroes, and always will be. If you ever get the chance to meet one, just say thanks, and let them know that everything they do is appreciated.

Super-heroes are a privilege, not a right. They are trying to help us, and I for one are glad that they are around.

RED AND BLUE FOREVER
By Lois Lane
Metropolis - A familiar site to the eyes of the world has seen yesterday patrolling the skies of Metropolis. Superman, has indeed returned better than ever. Seen sporting his famous red, yellow, and blue costume, complete with cape, he appeared to rescue an Army transport flying home to Metropolis, and he saved this reporter's life and the lives of many others, once again.

Over the past year, Superman has undergone many fantastic changes, first to his electric-based powers being held together only by a containment suit, and more recently split into two beings of energy, one Red and one Blue. With that all behind him he was back into action without missing a step; after saving the plane he was off to save another life.

This time it was billionaire industrialist Lex Luthor's daughter, Lena. The Daily Planet received the first photo of the young heiress only days ago. She was kidnapped by the mysterious Bizarro Superman. Following a series of clues, and with the aid of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit, Lena Luthor was returned to her father with no harm done.

Metropolis once again owes his thanks to Superman, and so does Lex Luthor. The same one who has been vocal in his beliefs about Superman,

often stating that Metropolis would be better off without him. This reporter wonders if Luthor's opinion remains the same today, after having his daughter returned to him by the very man he has opposed.

Superman is indeed back, and looking out for the citizens of Metropolis once again. So when you look to the sky and wonder is that a bird, or a plane? It's Superman! The one and only.
