book:
"Fanzing Presents: Job Wanted!"
Currently aiming for a debut in mid-2003, Job Wanted #1 is a self-published, black/white 80 Page Giant dedicated to the one subject that immediately came to the minds of a team of struggling, aspiring comic book writers and artists. Namely, the real jobs that put cash in our pockets!
The unifying theme of unique, interesting and bizarre jobs runs through 8 cross-genre stories by 15 of Fanzing's top creative talents.
Writer Michael Hutchison and artist Erik Burnham kick off the book with a tale of our very own Fuzzball as he pursues his own job in the comic book industry.
Writer/artist Kurt Belcher takes you on a unique bus tour through one of the weirder parts of town in "Night Route."
A slob gets a job working on a disgusting blob in one of the oddest stories: "The Slime" by writer Michael Rees, artist Chris Franklin and inker Ethan Colchamiro.
Co-writers J. Morgan Neal and Gregg Noon and artist Philipp Neundorf bring to life the tale of "Rogue" as a ranch hand chases down a wild horse in their tale of old Texas.
Writer D.J. LoTempio and artist Christian Moore explore modern-day exorcism when a young priest must free a child from the video game system that has possessed him in "The Devil in the Playbox".
Writing/art team The Brothers Grinn take you on a voyage of discovery through the underworld of supervillain supplies with "Evil Inc."
Scott McCullar tells an origin story for his character Yellow Jacket (seen recently in "Shooting Star Comics Anthology" #1) as the ex-millionaire wanders the Depression-era countryside looking for work.
Finally, writer Michael Hutchison and artist Phil Meadows delve deep into the worst job in all of science fiction: deep space junk collection. In "Enigma in Outer Space," a struggling spacer cleaning up after a wreck in an asteroid field gets a shock when he finds the most unlikely discovery in the void of space: a life form reading.
In addition to these 8 stories, each story will feature a pseudo-cover pin-up by our book's cover artist, Rosaline Terrill.
About Fanzing.com
Since 1997, Fanzing has published an online comic book fan magazine, acquiring its own domain in 1998. Founded by Marc Campbell (who left to become the web master for DC Comics from 1997-1999), it was taken over by Michael Hutchison who served as editor and webmaster for the site. In the past five years, the magazine has grown to three times the size it once was, and the site has expanded to also feature fan-made desktop wallpapers, themes, screensavers and greeting cards, as well as one of the web's largest directories of links to comic book trades and novels.
Recently, Fanzing's editorial staff decided to bring the monthly magazine to a close in order to pursue other goals, which led to the creation of "Job Wanted." The last issue of Fanzing Magazine issue #52, is scheduled to be released in January 2003.
About the Contributors
Over the years, Fanzing has showcased the work of well over a hundred writers and artists, including both up-and-coming comic professionals and talented fans with no desire to work in comics. Some of Fanzing's contributors have continued on to independent publishing and are pursuing professional comic book careers. The talent for "Job Wanted" were selected for their talent and creativity combined with their dedication to truly breaking into the comic book field.
Kurt Belcher drew attention at Fanzing for his innovative proposals in the "Brainstorm's Corner" column. Kurt has an 80-page project that he co-wrote and illustrated, called UNIVERSITY, finished and being prepared for self-publication. He's also recently finished drawing another project called FOG for Hallucination Studios, an independent comics group.
Erik Burnham writes and draws the Zinger cartoons that appear at Fanzing.com, plus he has his own web comic "The Down Side." His Nick Landime story in Shooting Star Comics Anthology #1 has been widely praised.
Chris Franklin is a professional graphic artist, and has penciled comics for Illusion Studios and Newbreed Comix.
The Brothers Grinn are Brian Burke and Stuart Burke. The duo has competed in almost all of Fanzing's art challenges and won three of them. The brothers also run their own online comic strip at Supermegatopia.com
Michael Hutchison has been the head writer, editor and webmaster of Fanzing since 1997. Currently serving as "editor at large" of the magazine, he is the editor of "Job Wanted" and is working on a comic book project with Phil Meadows.
D.J. LoTempio is an aspiring writer who has contributed a number of fiction stories to Fanzing.
Scott McCullar, an aspiring writer and artist who has several art pieces published in Fanzing, contributed his first published work to Green Arrow Secret Files and Origins #1 by DC Comics. He recently debuted his own characters in Shooting Star Comics Anthology #1.
Phil Meadows is a professional illustrator and serves as Fanzing's Art Coordinator. He has designed numerous graphic elements for the site and recently won a Fanzing art challenge. He is currently teaming with Michael Hutchison on a comic book project.
Christian Moore is a longtime contributor to Fanzing and has won more of the magazine's art challenges than any other artist. He has created artworks for Wizard Magazine's Cafe DNA web site and works as a media designer. You can see more of Christian's work at www.christianmoore.com.
J. Morgan Neal has written for Fanzing and Shooting Star Comics Anthology #1.
Philipp Neundorf has published several comic books in Germany and contributed artwork to Fanzing #52..
Michael Rees is an aspiring writer who hails from the U.K. He has contributed over a dozen fiction stories to Fanzing.
Rosaline Terrill's paintings have skyrocketed her in the last year to being the cover artist for most of Fanzing's recent issues, and she took home the prize for the Fifth Annual Swimsuit Art Challenge. She also operates Raptor Claw Arts studio, where she displays and sells fantasy artwork.
